True accountability means consequences—and in 2025, the fight for justice has moved into some of the highest legal institutions in the world: the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
While the bombs have fallen and the suffering continues, legal efforts are underway that could reshape global conversations about war crimes, occupation, and impunity. Let’s break down what’s happening—and why it matters.
ICJ: Genocide Case at The Hague
In early 2024, South Africa filed a case at the International Court of Justice accusing Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The ICJ—the UN’s top court—quickly took it seriously, issuing provisional measures demanding Israel take steps to prevent further civilian harm.
